"In the last year, we have experienced a significant increase in the demand for our services in the greater Estacada area," We have been in awe of the outpouring of support, and there's still much we can do to ensure everyone in need of our vital lifeline can benefit from being well-nourished and more connected to our community through this challenging time and beyond."

The annual March for Meals celebration commemorates the historic day in March of 1972 when President Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 to include a national nutrition program for seniors over 60. Since 2002, community-based Meals on Wheels programs from across the country have joined forces for the annual awareness campaign to celebrate and garner support for those in need.

"The pandemic has introduced many of us to the harsh realities of food insecurity and social isolation - something many seniors experience as their daily norm. Now more than ever we must rally around our essential community base programs to serve a growing number of seniors in need. Please join us in celebrating the importance of Meals on Wheels and donate this March.

I volunteer because I recently retired and my brilliant wife saw that I needed to find something to keep me active. She suggested that I should contact the M.O.W organization. It takes little time and I feel like I'm involved in the community. I am inspired by all the other volunteers, and the staff at the Center because they care about everyone in Estacada. The most rewarding for me is delivering meals, it's a great way to interact with people. It makes me feel useful and needed. Seeing a smile is a HUGE reward. I have always been a "worker bee", don't like being "in charge". I really like everyone involved in the program. I owe a lot to the Estacada Community, so this is one small way to give back.
I moved here in 2016. Through volunteering, I have found what a wonderful community Estacada is. I enjoy meeting new people and it helps to know the area. I enjoy exercising, so this gives me a few steps to walk. People are so appreciative. It is great to see the smiles, waves, exchange a few words and make new friends.
We volunteer because we love to help people and my prayer is that I can bring a smile to their faces! The most rewarding thing about delivering meals is when they smile and engage in a conversation. It's a joy seeing how grateful they are.
I volunteer because, I've always enjoyed doing things for other people. There is such a need in the community for assistance and I love helping fill that need. I lost my mom almost 2 years ago and seeing what she went through the last few months of her life, even with family close is hard. Some of the folks I deliver to rarely see or talk to anyone. I know they appreciate all of the drivers. The most rewarding thing for me is talking with people I deliver to. listening to them and seeing the smiles!
We had been looking for an outlet to help our community, so when the opportunity came to drive for Meals on Wheels, we signed on. MOW is a program that truly provides a much needed service. We enjoy developing relationships with clients. Many recipients of MOW have limited family support or opportunities for social interaction. We love to give a word of encouragement or try to meet a need. They really appreciate our visits, and honesty, we think for a few people this is the only food they get.
I do this because I enjoy serving my community and helping others. It's a way for me to get out of the house, and get some light exercise. I have done community service my whole life and its always a new adventure.
